Franchises
Franchises in Australia are bound by the Franchising Code of Conduct
which requires franchisors to disclose specific information and follow
certain rules. Assistance for small business operators who are buying,
extending or renewing a franchise, or who need help with resolving
disputes may also be available from state and territory governments.

Franchising Code of Conduct
The Franchising Code of Conduct, a mandatory Code prescribed under the Trade
Practices Act 1974, was introduced on 1 July 1998. A review was undertaken in 2000
and amendments made to the Code effective from 1 October 2001. The Australian
Competition and Consumer Commission (ACCC) is responsible for the administration
and enforcement of the Franchising Code of Conduct.
